Voltronic Axpert MAX vs MKS Series

Two Axpert Series, Different Strengths

The Voltronic Axpert lineup includes two main off-grid inverter series: the MKS (the proven, cost-effective workhorse) and the MAX (the newer, higher-performance flagship). Both are excellent products, but they target different needs and budgets.

When to Choose Axpert MKS

  • Budget is the primary concern: MKS costs 30-40% less than MAX for similar capacity
  • Small to medium systems: 1-5 kW single-unit installations
  • 24V battery systems: MKS offers 24V options for smaller systems
  • Simple, proven technology: The MKS has years of field-proven reliability

When to Choose Axpert MAX

  • Larger systems: Single units up to 11 kW, or parallel up to 99 kW (9 units)
  • Higher PV capacity: Dual MPPT and higher input power support larger solar arrays
  • Mixed orientations: Dual independent MPPT tracks two different roof orientations efficiently
  • Future expansion: 9-unit parallel gives more room to grow than MKS's 6-unit limit
  • Maximum efficiency: 95-97% peak efficiency reduces energy waste

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Axpert series comparison questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mix MKS and MAX in parallel?

No. Parallel operation requires identical models with the same firmware version. You cannot mix MKS and MAX units, or even different capacity models within the same series. All parallel units must be the exact same model.

Is the Axpert MAX worth the price difference?

If you need 7+ kW per unit, dual MPPT, or plan to expand beyond 6 parallel units, the MAX is the clear choice. For a simple 3-5 kW system that will not expand significantly, the MKS offers excellent value. Calculate your total system cost including solar panels and batteries — the inverter is typically 15-20% of the total system cost.

Which has better reliability?

Both series use the same Voltronic quality standards and are manufactured in the same facilities. The MKS has a longer track record (more years in the field), while the MAX uses newer components and improved thermal design. Both carry the same warranty period. Choose based on features and capacity needs rather than reliability concerns.
